A stroll through Warsaw

A record of my visit to Poland's capital in June 2018, focusing on the historical aspects of the city, often painful to contemplate. But today's Warsaw is also a reborn, modern, European city.

20-22 June 2018

The Pawiak prison, Dzielna Street. Originally built in the 19th century, it was used by the Germans during the occupation 1939-45 to hold mainly Polish political prisoners. Around 100,000 passed through here, with 37,000 executed on site and many of the rest transported to various concentration camps.
