A day out with my daughter

Alkmaar and Amsterdam

On Friday, 20 July 2007, I took the day off to spend it with my daughter. We first went to Alkmaar to see the famous cheese market, and then to Amsterdam to see a photo exhibition, have lunch and buy books. We both enjoyed the day.

1
Despite being a small town, Alkmaar has a very good football team that frequently plays in Europe
2
The cheeses are laid out on Waagplein where a cheese market has been held since the Middle Ages
3
Around the cheese market, individual booths sell smaller quantities
4
5
While we waited for the cheese market to start, we had a cup of coffee and hot chocolate
6
Still an hour to go before the market starts but the spectators are already assembling
7
The cheeses are brought to the market by truck and laid out in neat rows

10
While waiting for the market to start, we went for a walk in the old centre of Alkmaar
11
My daughter and I share a love for animals, so we both enjoyed seeing this antique shop and its owner
12
The little companion of one of the stall holders
13
This boy seemed to be suspicious of the guy with the big camera
14
The cheese market starts at 10, so it is time to go back to the square
15
By now the tourists are packing the perimeter of the square and getting a clear view is difficult
16
This lot of cheese has been bought by someone and is now being taken to the truck in the traditional way
