Semana Santa in Alicante

Easter week (Semana Santa) is celebrated all over Spain with processions, culminating on Easter Sunday. Each day processions by specific "hermandades" or "cofradias" carry images from local churches around the centre of the city. It is an important religious and social occasion, and the time and effort that goes into the preparations is enormous.
