Kraków

Kraków is probably the most visited city in Poland. It is the country's original capital and contains many famous landmarks. Its former Jewish quarter, Kazimierz, bears witness to a once thriving culture that was virtually eradicated during the Holocaust.

The synagogue was built in the 19th century, in a somewhat Moorish style. It was desecrated by the German occupiers in the 1940s but was not destroyed.
